Six Months of My Local Bobby in Stratford-upon-Avon: The Difference on the Ground
The first six months of My Local Bobby being in Stratford-upon-Avon has seen a significant impact.
From the first day, having a consistent, visible presence on the ground has helped strengthen confidence across the town centre. Over the past six months, our bobbies have built genuine, trusted relationships with businesses throughout the BID area, connecting with both levy-paying and non-levy-paying organisations. That consistent engagement has reinforced an important message: we’re all working together to support Stratford-upon-Avon.
Stronger connections across the business community
A key area of progress has been the continued growth and development of the Retail Radio scheme. By helping to strengthen participation and usage, My Local Bobby has improved communication between businesses, making it easier to share information, respond quickly, and feel more connected as a business community.
Partnership working that makes a difference
In Stratford-upon-Avon, town centre safety works best when everyone pulls in the same direction. Over the past six months, My Local Bobby has developed solid working relationships with a wide range of partners, including:
- Stratford SNT (Safer Neighbourhood Team)
- Community Safety
- CCTV teams
- Local charities
- Local centres supporting some of our most vulnerable residents
These relationships have strengthened coordination, improved information sharing, and helped ensure the right support is available when it’s needed most.
Real action, every day
The day-to-day role has been wide-ranging, and often unpredictable. In just six months, My Local Bobby has supported Stratford-upon-Avon through:
- Detaining offenders and recovering stolen goods
- Tackling anti-social behaviour
- Supporting people into housing
- Delivering first aid when needed
And that’s only part of the story. The reality of town centre policing and support is that no two days look the same, and the work continues quietly in the background as much as it does in visible moments.
A huge asset to Stratford-upon-Avon
“We could not be prouder of how My Local Bobby has embedded themselves into the role and embraced everything the job asks of them. Their commitment, professionalism, and approachability have made them a huge asset to Stratford-upon-Avon, and an important part of keeping the town safe, welcoming, and thriving.”
As we look ahead, we’re excited to build on this momentum and continue strengthening the partnerships and proactive work that’s already delivering real results for Stratford-upon-Avon.
Emerson Park Arrest Support: April 2025
During a morning patrol on our Emerson Park beat, one of our dedicated Bobbies, Koon Wai, played a vital role in assisting police with the arrest of two burglary suspects. After spotting the individuals, Koon Wai worked in close coordination with a police officer to approach them. As one of the male suspects resisted arrest, Koon Wai quickly intervened to safely restrain him until additional officers arrived at the scene.
This quick-thinking and professional response ensured the situation was handled safely and effectively, leading to the successful arrest of both individuals. The swift resolution of the incident was met with heartfelt appreciation from the local community. One resident, who captured the moment on video, shared their thanks:
“Koon Wai was amazing today in assisting the police, thank you My Local Bobby for keeping our community safe.”
This incident is a powerful example of how My Local Bobby works hand-in-hand with local police to create safer communities. Through proactive patrols, strong community relationships, and a readiness to respond, our Bobbies continue to play a crucial role in reducing crime and enhancing public safety where it matters most.
One Night in the Heart of London: February 2025
During a single evening shift in the Heart of London, our Bobbies detained eight individuals involved in violent and weapon-related incidents, leading to four arrests.
At 5:09pm, the team supported police in managing an incident near Chinatown where a man was reportedly assaulting multiple people. Their calm intervention ensured the situation was brought under control.
Later, at 11:00pm, Bobbies responded to reports of a fight involving a zombie knife. Three suspects were detained and a fourth was arrested by police, found in possession of a large knife.
At 11:50pm, Bobbies observed a police officer struggling with two males. They intervened and detained three individuals, recovering another large knife. Two of the men were arrested, one for possession of a bladed article and another for obstructing police.
The actions taken that night highlight the value of My Local Bobby’s presence in busy urban areas, offering essential support to law enforcement and helping to prevent serious harm to the public.
Prolific Offender Arrested in Central London: December 2024
While on patrol in Central London, the Heart of London Bobbies identified and detained one of the area’s top ten prolific offenders, known for repeated anti-social and criminal behaviour.
The individual was actively breaching a Community Protection Notice (CPN) and had only recently been arrested days before. When approached, they became aggressive and verbally abusive toward the Bobbies. Despite this, the team remained calm and professional, safely detaining the suspect until police arrived to make the arrest.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of My Local Bobby to monitor and manage known offenders, working closely with police to disrupt patterns of repeat offending and safeguard the public in high-footfall areas.
Operation in Leicester Square – Tackling ASB Through Partnership: November 2024
In collaboration with Westminster City Council and the Metropolitan Police, My Local Bobby supported a targeted operation in Leicester Square focused on addressing anti-social behaviour linked to Pedicab activity in the West End.
The operation resulted in seven arrests, including one rider who was wanted by Immigration. Over 25 riders were stopped for traffic-related offences and subject to stop and search procedures. Alongside enforcement, officers also provided education around upcoming legislation to encourage safer and more compliant conduct moving forward.
This joint initiative demonstrates the strength of partnership-led policing and the shared commitment to ensuring Leicester Square remains a safe and enjoyable environment for all who visit, live, and work in the area.
Coordinated Response Leads to Swift Arrests in Central London: October 2024
In the early hours of Sunday morning, My Local Bobby’s night patrol team responded to a series of mobile phone thefts reported across Central London. Victims described a group of three males operating in the area, prompting an immediate and coordinated search effort.
At approximately 3:00 AM, Bobbies Lewis and Amir observed the suspects committing another theft but were unable to intervene at that moment. Demonstrating persistence and situational awareness, the team later re-identified the suspects at 4:53 AM.
Working with a nearby police unit, all three individuals were safely detained. A search revealed four high-value stolen mobile phones in their possession, leading to arrests for handling stolen goods.
This incident reflects the vigilance and teamwork of our Bobbies in supporting police and protecting the public, especially in high-risk night-time environments.
Six Weeks in Ealing: August to September 2022
In Working with the ‘Make It Ealing’ BID The Prolific Crimes Team were tasked with catching, gathering evidence and prosecuting shoplifters.
The results far exceeded expectations with 76 arrests, 72 for shoplifting, 3 pick pockets and 1 class A drug supplier. The team received very positive feedback from the BID and Stakeholders.
Significant intelligence was gathered and passed onto the Police who are a key partner for My Local Bobby.
Private prosecutions were instigated where the value of the property stolen exceeded £200 or other aggravating features existed. Trespass notices were served to individuals whose theft was less than £200 with the ability to prosecute for burglary should the individual offend again.
Importantly, retail staff now feel safer when they come to work.
